TDC Mourns the Loss of Julie Cunningham, COMTO President and CEO

Statement by TDC President and CEO Dwayne C. Sampson

TDC would like to express our sadness for the loss of Julie Cunningham, President and CEO of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), who passed away this morning. Our sympathies and prayers are with Julie’s daughter and family, the COMTO family and her friends in the Transportation community.

There was no doubt that Julie was extremely passionate about COMTO, and she demonstrated a relentless determination in ensuring that real opportunity was afforded to her members and the communities which they represent.

TDC was blessed to have honored Julie at our Transportation and Power Infrastructure Summit in Washington, DC on July 10, 2013.  If you attended this Summit, then you would have witnessed the delight and joy on Julie’s face as she accepted this honor.  I remember her pulling me aside and saying, “Dwayne, I thought it was just going to be me, you and a couple of people”.  Julie was quite surprised by the turn-out to see her being honored by TDC.  We are happy to have shared that moment as Julie inspired TDC and provided advice on how to get noticed and respected in the industry. We will sorely miss the opportunity to continue marching together with her in the quest to accomplish diversity and equal access in the industry and the communities that we serve.
